Speed Control Using Embedded Processor
Abstract:
DC motors are widely used in industry for their high reliability and low cost. The accuracy of motor speed control is a key issue. It is desirable that the motor speed be controlled within a given band under various known or unknown disturbances.
Cost associated with the sensors that directly or indirectly measure the motor speed makes many existing control designs not production viable. In this project, we study the challenging task of controlling the speed of DC motors.
Different type of controllers are analyzed and compared. The new controller, Closed Loop Speed Control, is tested in controller with a speed sensor.

Operation:
In our project we are using the sensors, current transformer, voltage measure circuit, firing angle generator, Thyristor, dc motor, speed sensor, keyboard, LCD display with Micro controller.
The current transformer is used to measure the current in the DC motor. The voltage measuring circuit is used to measure the voltage level and these signals send signal to the controller.
The keyboard is used to set the required speed of the dc motor manually the controller. If any faults find out by the voltage measuring circuit and C.T. (voltage or current increase), it will produce beep signal at alarm using the controller during the speed control.
The speed of the motor is controlled by varying the firing angle of the thyristor circuit and a speed sensor is used for sensing the speed of the motor. This will be send to the controller and. The LCD is used to display the voltage, current and the speed of dc motor for the user convenience.
