Intelligent load shedding using GSM
Abstract :
Automation in every system is very much needed as it saves our time spent on it. In industries maintaining the power below the fixed maximum demand is a big problem. If the fixed maximum demand exceeds then the industries have to pay penalty to electricity board. This penalty will be twice or thrice the amount of the original rate. Hence an automation process is required to solve the problem.
The maximum demand is defined as the product of the voltage and the current that has been consumed by the loads. The value of the maximum demand varies for various sub-stations depending upon the load. The cumulative maximum demand is the instantaneous average value of maximum demand.
The analog signals of voltage and current value are tapped from the primary side of the transformer (11kv/415v) using current transformer. This analog signal is converted into discrete data using A/D converter. The discrete data is fed into micro-controller for calculating the maximum demand. The calculated value is displayed continuously using the display.

Operation:
In this project, micro controller is interfaced with GSM Modem and RTC. For user convenience LCD display is interfaced with micro controller. The critical and non critical loads are connected through relays.
In this project analog signals of current value is tapped from the primary side of the transformer (11kv/415v ) using current transformer. This analog signal is converted into discrete data using A/D converter. The discrete data is fed into micro-controller for calculating the maximum demand. The calculated value is displayed continuously using the display.
The various values of the maximum demand are stored for each and every interval of time. If the maximum demand exceeds the fixed level, a S.M.S will be sent via GSM Modem to the authorized person and then the non critical load will be Switched OFF through the relay circuit. And it controls from exceeding the maximum demand.
